Pius Enam Hadzide, spokesperson for Abetifi MP and former Minister of Food and Agriculture, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, has retracted his earlier claim that all New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidates, including Ofoase-Ayirebi MP Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, received campaign funding for the 2024 general elections.
On Adom TV’s Badwam programme on Thursday, January 15, 2026, the former NPP Asuogyaman parliamentary candidate alleged that all candidates received a total of GH¢700,000 in direct campaign support from Dr. Acheampong.
However, during the same show on Friday, he backtracked, clarifying that Mr. Nkrumah and five other candidates did not accept the funding.
“It is not true that all the parliamentary candidates in the Eastern Region took money from Dr. Bryan Acheampong. About six of them, including Hon. Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, did not take the support,” Mr. Hadzide stated.
He added that most parliamentary candidates in the region received about GH¢1.7 million each as part of campaign support coordinated by Dr. Acheampong in his role as Eastern Regional Campaign Coordinator.
The clarification followed a live call-in by Mr. Nkrumah, a former Minister of Information, who strongly denied the initial allegation.
“The only money my constituency executives received was the one Dr Mahamudu Bawumia sent to the regions for campaign purposes. I did not personally take any campaign money from Dr. Bryan Acheampong,” he insisted.
Mr. Nkrumah also disclosed that he personally supported the NPP youth wing in the Eastern Region monthly until election day, stressing that his campaign was not funded by any individual aspirant.
He further cautioned the Bryan Acheampong campaign team against highlighting monetary support as a campaign strategy.
“Campaigning on the basis of how much money someone gave does not speak well of the New Patriotic Party,” he said.
