Some opposition parties in the country have unanimously condemned National Security Advisor, Brigadier General Nunoo Mensah over his recent comment about labour strikes in the country.

Speaking at the commissioning of a nine-unit classroom block for O’reilly Secondary School over the weekend, the Security Advisor to the president bemoaned the incessant strikes in the country describing it as “indiscipline”.

A livid Nunoo Mensah asked the workers to “get out of the country if the kitchen is too hot” for them.

Some labour unions have reacted furiously at the comment by the National Security Advisor. The Ghana Medical Association (GMA) says the comment is misplaced.

Speaking to CitiNews, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Acting Communications Director, Perry Okudzeto said Nunoo Mensah’s comment is “very disappointing”.

 He said the security capo should as a matter of urgency render an unqualified apology to the labour front because “we cannot tolerate people who are paid tax payers' money to be speaking to us like this”.

Also, the General Secretary of the Progressive People's Party (PPP), Kofi Asamoah Siaw said Brigadier General Nunoo Mensah “misdirected his comment”.

He noted given his pedigree at the presidency, he should have been diplomatic in commenting on such a sensitive issue involving labour.

“I would have expected that he addressed the issue government delaying in processing very simple documentation for workers' salaries”.

The PPP scribe added that the workers have genuine concerns “but if you go and attack them without addressing the issues they complained about then I think it is unfortunate”. 

Kofi Asamoah Siaw said he expected Nunoo Mensah to have rather appealed to the striking workers to consider the national interest when demanding salaries due them.

In support, Deputy Communications Director of the National Democratic Party (NDP), Ernest Owusu Bempah said Nunoo Mensah as a statesman hit below the belt.

He indicated that as someone who has curved a niche for himself in the annals of Ghanaian politics, should have known better.

Owusu Bempah who could not fathom the motivation beyond Nunoo Mensah’s comment said “it is absolutely beyond of human reasoning”.

“For the National Security Advisor of the country to come out and make such a statement, then Ghana is already going into a ditch”.
