The Attorney General, (AG), Marietta Brew Appiah-Oppong, has said that there is no evidence connecting the United Kingdom-based Ghanaian pastor, Eric Isaiah Adusah, to the alleged murder of his British wife.

According to the AG, the pastor of the Global Light Revival Ministries could not be linked to the alleged murder of the late Ms. Charmaine Speirs, 41.

This was contained in the AG's advice dated October 26, 2015, on the case docket.

Detective Sergeant Divine K. Tormuh, who read portions of the advice in the court presided over by Ms. Mavis Kwainoe, was emphatic that the AG had ordered that Pastor Adusah be discharged.

As a result, lawyers for the pastor, led by Afia Acheampomaa Dua, requested that the court rather acquit his client, a request the court rejected.

She said the court ought to order the release of the corpse to the accused to enable him (accused) send it to the bereaved family in the UK.

The trial magistrate consequently ordered the release of the body to Pas­tor Adusah and according­ly discharged him.

Although the pastor was cleared of the charges, he surprisingly kept stand­ing in the dock until the judge remarked, "You can go, you are a free man."

Other lawyers who rep­resented Pastor Adusah were Gaspar Lyle Nii Aponsah and Frieda Boateng, while the state was represented by Chief Insp. Robert Gyamfi, hold­ing brief for Detective •Inspector Isaac Agbemehia.

Pastor Adusah was being tried over the death of Ms. Speirs, which occurred between 18 and 20 March, 2015 at Mac Die Royal Plaza Hotel in Koforidua, the Eastern Regional capital.

Charged with murder contrary to Section 46 of Act 29 of 1960, the plea of the accused person was not taken by the court.

Hints

However, the turn of events did not come as a surprise.

It may be recalled that the AG at the earlier stages of the committal trial, had hinted that the state did not have enough evidence to try the man of God.

This followed an autop­sy report on the deceased from the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, dated March 31, 2015, signed by Dr. Afua Darkwah Abrahams, which indicated "that the pastor's wife died of "acute poising and opiate heroin" over­dose, a banned necrotic substance.

No Evidence

The AG, in the seven- page advice dated May 3, 2015 signed by Evelyn D. Keelson said, "...As already stated, even though we find some aspects of his behaviour suspicious, we cannot at this stage have sufficient evidence to hold him liable for the death of the deceased."

It further added, "We therefore advise that he is granted bail. He should however, continue to assist the police in conducting further investigations into the case."

The accused and his late wife got married in September, 2014 in the UK after a whirlwind romance.

Ms. Speirs was found dead in the bathtub of the afore-mentioned hotel where they both stayed when they visited Ghana.
