The National Peace Council of Ghana has played down on the assertion that the council is doing little or nothing to stop the growing incidents of political insults in Ghana.
Some opinion leaders had accused the council of letting political biases get in the way of their work hence they had refused to chastise uncouth behaviour of some politicians on the airwaves.
But Chairman of the Council, Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Asante told Adom News that they are putting measures in place to resolve the political tension that is building up.
“We will be meeting leaders of the various political divides and map up strategies to ensure a violent free election but if the media should know about anything they will definitely know.”
Also, the Head of Ahamadiya Muslims Mission who is also a member of the National Peace Council, Maulvi Wahab Adams condemned the comments made by the Presidential spokesperson, Koku Anyidoho, who had warned that some New Patriotic Party leaders, including flagbearer Nana Akufo-Addo, would be dealt with if they provoked any violence.
He urged Mr. Anyidoho and other politicians alike to be circumspect in their utterances in order not to plunge the country into fighting.
