Given the number of elite coaches that have plied their trade in Ghana, trying to decide upon the pick of the bench is nigh on impossible. What is undeniable, though, is that Kwesi Appiah now warrants comparison with such coaching luminaries as Charles Kumi Gyamfi and Milovan Rajevac.
It’s natural really; you can have the most talented group of forwards in front of the most solid defence in the world, but without someone to guide and contain all those egos and helping the players improve, it counts for nothing.
In this list, Asempa FM’s Scoreboard have the all time best coaches IN COMPETITIVE GAMES for the Ghana Black Stars, ranked by the number of matches played, won lost and drawn.
Former Asante Kotoko coach Isaac 'Opeele' Boateng shared his thoughts on the statistics.
"This is a fantastic analysis because nobody has researched into this record in Ghana," He said.
"Claude Le Roy is a good coach and he has done well statistically but he got a lot of opportunities to win laurels to match his statistics, especially failing to win the 2008 Nations Cup hosted in Ghana."
"C.K Gyamfi too did well with the Black Stars. He went to Brazil to learn the 4-2-4 formation and he employed it during his reign at the Black Stars.
"Otto Pfister is a wonderful coach, but I didn't like him because he omitted Opoku Nti, who was on fantastic form for Kotoko, from the Black Stars."
