This scene should be a reality check on the extent of filthy indiscipline in Ghanaian society.
The picture was taken by myjoyonline editor, Malik Abass Daabu at the drain called 'Odo river' at Circle, Accra.
The problem is already chronic, but the fear is perhaps we are a genetically undisciplined people.
Once again, it is disgusting to think that public education, sensitization and all the adverts sponsored by the Ministry of Local Government being run on national television is a strategy to effect societal change to sanitation.
Running adverts is inefective as a strategy.
Sensi-what??? These kids just came back from school - where a sense of cleanliness was taught. They belong to a community where a sense of cleanliness should be inherent and yet they choose to openly defecate in such a dangerous location, with adults looking on, and in some cases even stopping to exchange pleasantries.
So when a community decides to live and wallow in filth, the last thing they need is sensitization.
No wonder the Asantehene has been trying to drum into public authorities; that short of enforcement, punishment and fines this monthly clean up exercise will be a fruitless endeavour.
