Katherine Cassidy Mensah, as she would start Saturday morning with the last official use of her surname, walked into the Elim Evangelical church at North Kaneshie with her father beaming. The health psychologist from the UK looked psychologically prepared for a day that would transform her from a spinster into a married woman. On a day blessed with mild showers, an MSc in Health Psychology from Aston University, Birmingham, did not matter much; love did. The veil was bound to do an ineffective job of minimising a beauty that was enhanced by a dentition quite flawless after all these years. Fiifi Koomson was before the altar much earlier - waiting. Something he has been doing for all his life until last Saturday. In his elements, Fiifi Koomson cut a bubbly figure. The man who creates content on Joy FM looked content. He was at his jovial best, even romantic best as he read a poem to his bride in some throwback to medieval Romeo and Juliet. His bride protected her own blushing with the prominent ring-wearing finger as a heavy download of literary devices in Fiifi's poem must have left her quite stunned. Manasseh Azure wore a smile as he stood by during this poem-reading episode. After years of writing 'Letters to my future wife' he must have been wondering how he did not employ this novelty at his own wedding in 2016. But Fiifi was not done with his cupboard of surprises. He also gave his beauty his own crown in a customised wedding ceremony that bore all the semblance of Fiifi's own creativity. As far as Fiifi is concerned there is a new queen on the seat in life's Game of Thrones. The dark blue jacket with black lapels hang on him like a compliment and transformed his sometimes giraffe-like movements into a man of great composure and practised royalty. This was Fiifi's big moment and ever-comfortable under public attention, Mr. Koomson left his friends and family watching on, entertained. So Christmas jingle bells came early for the Joy News features editor whose baritone-voice also does jingles in several commercials. For years Fiifi Koomson cuts sound and arranges documentary scripts to create compelling feature stories. But for once, he spent some time to cut out for himself, nice features for his future. That future was what Rev Kennedy Bentum of the Gospel Ambassadors Church, Lapaz, said must be guided by God's original purpose for marriage; that a woman comes into a man's life with the ultimate assignment of offering help. At a well-attended wedding at Elim Evangelical Church founded by Kate's father, Rev Dr JRK Mensah, a host of Multimedia Group staff joined to celebrate the big day. There was the euphoria weddings bring. But for those years deep into the till-death-do-us-part journey, they kept a cool happiness. A joy tempered by experience that marriage is hard, hard work. Take Joy News editor, Elvis Kwashie. He was heavy on his seat while the unintiated were largely light on their feet. Joy FM Director of Programmes Kofi Ansah watched on with some nostalgia. When it was time to kiss the bride, Fiifi demonstrated the longings of an extremely thristy man. He held Katherine like a golfer holds his golf stick ready to hit a birdie. And he struck it - well almost. Fiifi settled for a hug. Hours later, far from the solemn requirements of church, the reception brought out boisterious temper of guest surrounded by food, drinks and beautiful women. Joy Business editor George Wiafe hid under black spectacles as if he didn't need to go wife-shopping at a ceremony that threw up massively bright options. Perhaps he was gathering ideas for his own. Suffice it to say, there will be no poem to match Fiifi Koomson's feat. Lyrics is Wiafe's bane. Joy News editor Araba Koomson had an unexplained satisfaction of popping the champagne in her blue outfit. Jospeh Ackah-Blay's struggles to follow suit was self-evident. Newsfile host Samson Lardy Anyenini was not going to be left out even after hosting a three hour show on Joy News. Ever faithful at weddings involving his juniors, he joined in the fun with a few words for the couple. So after all was said and done, Fiifi Koomson walked off with Katherine Cassidy Koomson to begin a journey in life that is expected to start from bed and beddings. More photos
