The faction within the Peoples National Convention challenging the legitimacy of the party’s executives is in court to overturn an order mandating police to take over the party’s head headquarters.
The Interim Management Committee filed the writ contesting the issues at the Adjabeng Magistrate court in Accra.
The IMC is also challenging a bench warrant issued for the arrest of its spokesperson and one other member accused of forcibly taking over the party’s national office for failing to appear in court last week.
The group’s Spokesperson Somtim Tobiga told Joy News the IMC will use all legal resources available to it, to overturn the earlier decision by the court.
A court in Accra issued civil orders instructing the police to take temporary control of the party's office but Mr Tobiga said the IMC is working towards getting that decision reversed.
In his view, there was no legal basis for the court to issue those orders.
He maintained the group is willing and ready to “defend and protect our integrity.”
The case will be heard Tuesday, January 11, 2011.
The party’s executives and members of the disputed Interim Management Committee are at each others' throat over who has the right to run the party.
