Dr. Edward Mahama, People’s National Convention (PNC) presidential candidate, said his government would give equal support to all farmers to enable them to increase production. “The support that is given to the cocoa farmers, will be the same support that would also be given to maize, cassava, sheanut, dawadawa, cowpea, coffee and pineapple, as well as poultry and livestock farmers”, he said. Dr. Mahama, who was speaking at Wa on Sunday to round off a two-day campaign tour of some communities in the Upper West Region, said the National Health Insurance Scheme is the brainchild of PNC, which the NPP government did not properly implement. He said the PNC would introduce the Health Maintenance Organisation (HMO) in place of the NHIS, if voted into power. Dr Mahama said under the HMO, more medical professionals would be trained while health training institutions would be provided with adequate logistics and equipment as well as teaching materials to enhance quality training. He said the PNC would establish public universities in regions without such facility. Hajia Alima Ali, National Women Organiser of the PNC, called on Ghanaians to vote for the party on 7 December for peace and unity. She said the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and National Democratic Congress (NDC) should not be voted for in the December 7 polls because the two parties are not trustworthy. Hajia Ali said the PNC would seek the welfare of women and children and create jobs. She called on women, who according to her formed majority of Ghana’s population, to support the party to enable it to win the elections. Alhaji Ahmed Ramadan, PNC national chairman, appealed to Ghanaians to vote the NPP out of office to stop cheating and inequality adding that Election 2008 would enable Ghanaians to vote for change. He lamented the development disparity between the South and North parts of the country and called for a change in the situation. Alhaji Ramadan assured Ghanaians that a PNC government would create equal opportunities and ensure justice for the people to promote peace and unity. Dr. Edward Amadu Mumuni, parliamentary candidate for Wa Central, promised that he would work to ensure that the Wali language was used as a medium of communication on the national radio and television networks.
