Jones Agyeman, a Kumasi-based movie producer who hatched a false story that he had been kidnapped by two men of God, Rev. Ebenezer Adarkwa Yiadom and Bishop Daniel Obinim, will appear before a court Monday, 21 November, 2011.Jones Agyeman, together with his wife Deborah Agyeman and his brother, Evander Akwasi Agyeman, managed to get the police to call for the arrest of the two pastors after Deborah and Evander reported that the movie producer had been kidnapped by the two pastors. The police also went public with the matter, granting interviews to several radio stations that the two pastors were wanted men over the kidnapping issue. The complaint however turned out to be a big hoax as Jones and his two allies were caught blowing time at a hideout at Buokrom, a Kumasi suburb.Chief Superintendent Adusa of Tafo Pankrono Police in Kumasi has however rendered an apology to the two men of God over the matter and explained that investigations into the kidnapping showed that Jones Agyeman and his two conspirators cooked up the story.“We want to take this opportunity to extend our regrets to those whose names were mentioned. It wasn’t the police who did that. It was the complainant,” he noted.Further investigations into the matter revealed that Jones had just produced a new movie entitled ‘Obi Nim Ebenezer’, a pun that played on the names of the two pastors. In what seems like a strategy to sell his new movie, he, together with his wife and brother, cooked up the story of the kidnap. The brother and wife went to the police station to report it and accused the two pastors. They then got the media talking about the kidnap and the arrest of the two pastors as a publicity stunt.Fredrick Joe Awuah Ibrahim reports from Kumasi that Chief Superintendent Victor Adusah Poku, Tafo/Pankrono Divisional Police Commander, had confirmed the arrest of the three suspects. The police, he disclosed, had consequently charged the three suspects with deceit of public officer and disturbing public peace.Chief Superintendent Adusah Poku noted that the wife of the film producer, who was believed to have played a role in the criminal act, had been granted police enquiry bail.He said the other two suspects, including the film producer, would be kept in police custody till today Monday when they would be arraigned.Evander Agyeman told the police that prior to his brother’s sudden disappearance, Jonas Agyeman received threatening phone calls, with some unknown persons whom he suspected to be connected to Rev. Ebenezer Adarkwa and Bishop Daniel Obinim, threatening to kill him if he released the movie.Based on this information, the police invited Rev. Adarkwah Yiadom and Bishop Obinim to assist them in their investigations. He said before the two pastors could honour the invitation, the police had a tip-off that Jonas was after all not missing but was hiding at a certain location in the city. The police, he noted, rushed to the scene and found Jonas, the wife and Evander and hauled them to the station.
