The Ashanti Regional Police Command has launched an investigation into a violent incident in which a Jacobu District patrol team was attacked by a group of civilians at Bepotenten Sukuum in the Amansie Central District in the Ashanti Region while officers were carrying out routine operational duties.
According to a post shared on Facebook by the Service, the incident occurred on Friday, January 23, 2026, after police officers recovered a pump-action gun from a 15-year-old boy during a patrol operation in the area.
The post noted that the Police Command, the officers instructed the juvenile to inform the owner of the weapon to report to the police station with the appropriate documentation to account for possession of the firearm.
However, while the patrol team was returning from the operation, they were confronted by a large crowd of approximately 100 individuals who had blocked the road. The group was reportedly armed with cutlasses and firearms.

Police said the crowd attacked the officers, assaulting members of the patrol team and forcibly seizing a service rifle belonging to one of the officers.
In the ensuing confrontation, police opened fire, resulting in the assailant who had taken the service weapon being shot. Another individual also sustained injuries during the incident.
The Police Command confirmed that the seized service rifle was later successfully retrieved.
The injured persons were said to have received medical attention, while investigations are ongoing to identify and arrest all individuals involved in the attack.
In a statement, the Ashanti Regional Police Command strongly condemned the attack on its officers and cautioned the public against acts of violence towards law enforcement personnel.
“The Police Command would like to once again caution the public against attacks on our officers, since perpetrators will be pursued and arrested to face the full rigours of the law,” the statement said.
The Command reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining law and order in the region and urged members of the public to cooperate with the police in the discharge of their duties, stressing that any acts of obstruction or violence against officers would be dealt with firmly in accordance with the law.
