A driver working with IMPACT Ads, an advertising agency is said to have narrowly escaped death when a police officer allegedly shot at his vehicle.
The vehicle was shot during a scuffle between officials of IMPACT Ads and a task force of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly who had attempted to pull down a billboard belonging to the advertising agency and other agencies on the Spintex road in Accra.
The Executive Secretary of the Advertisers Association of Ghana, Francis Dadzie told Joy News the firm resisted the demolition because the billboard is not located within the jurisdiction of the AMA.
He said the owners of the billboards had paid the Ledzokuku authorities in whose jurisdiction the billboards were cited and didn’t think the AMA had any authority to pull down their advertisements.
Mr Dadzie questioned the reasonableness of shooting at a vehicle simply because of little misunderstanding.
The Accra Mayor, Alfred Vanderpuiye has confirmed the incident, but said his outfit has commissioned investigations into the matter.
He is, however, not readily available for further comments.
The incident is the latest in a series of confrontations between the ad agencies and the AMA over new fees the advertisers say are too exorbitant and controversial.
