A police officer and two supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) were assaulted at a rally organised by the Twifo- Hemang-Lower-Denkyira constituency branch of the NPP at Jukwa.
The windscreen of the vehicle belonging to Mr Samuel Agyeibie-Kessie, District Chief Executive, was also broken and the tyres deflated.
The victims, Sergeant Ben Abban, of the Jukwa police station, Charles Amoako and John Fameye, both NPP party supporters, were taken to the local health centre where they were treated and discharged.
Narrating the incident to the GNA, Sergeant Abban said he was at the police station when a group of NPP supporters brought in two injured men, one of whom they claimed had been hit with a stone by one Nana Assanka, a member of the campaign team for Mr Bright Wireko Brobbey, an independent parliamentary candidate for the constituency.
Sergeant Abban said while he was taking statements from the victims, some people threw stones into the station one of which hit him on the forehead.
He said the police are investigating and would put the culprits before court as soon as they are arrested.Source: GNA
