The Twifo Praso District Police Command has restored calm at Twifo Bimpong-Agya following a violent clash among some youth after the stabbing to death of a 28-year-old man, Ebenezer Korley.
Briefing the GNA, the Central North Regional Crime Officer, Chief Superintendent Edmund Agyemang Badu, said preliminary investigations indicated that the incident stemmed from a misunderstanding between the deceased and three suspects: Edward Asiedu Koffie, also known as “Escobar,” 28, and his accomplices, Kwaku and Sadique, whose ages are yet to be established.
He said the disagreement reportedly began on Tuesday, March 3, at Twifo Praso when a fight broke out between Mr Korley and Asiedu Koffie.
The suspect allegedly threatened to deal with the deceased after the quarrel and later confronted him again on the morning of Thursday, March 5, at a ghetto near the River Bimpon at Twifo Bimpong-Agya, where Mr Korley was allegedly stabbed in the neck.
He was rushed to the Twifo Atti-Morkwa District Hospital for medical attention but was pronounced dead on arrival.
News of his death sparked anger among some youth in the community, who allegedly attacked and vandalised the residence of Mr Asiedu Koffie, destroying personal belongings and setting some items ablaze.
The aggrieved youth also reportedly extended the attack to the residence of Sadique, damaging his property and that of his mother.
During the disturbances, a 22-year-old man, Mr Richard Osei, said to be a relative of one of the suspects, was assaulted and sustained injuries. He was rushed to the Bimpong-Agya Health Centre, where he is currently receiving treatment.
The body of the deceased has been deposited at the Twifo Atti-Morkwa District Hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
Meanwhile, Chief Superintendent Agyemang Badu said the police had launched a manhunt for the suspects, who reportedly fled the scene on a motorbike after the incident.
