The Director of the Police Public Affairs of the Ghana Police Service, DSP Cephas Arthur has denied reports that Ghana would deploy about 90 personnel to strengthen the Peace Support Operations in Somalia which is mandated by the African Union.
Reports on Wednesday indicated that Ghana’s security forces were undergoing some training at the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre in Accra to augment the operations of the African Union Mission (AMISOM) in Somalia.
But speaking on the Strict Proof with host Isaac Kaledzi on Radio XYZ, DSP Cephas Arthur confirmed that some officers were undergoing training at the centre but dismissed that those officers would be sent to Somalia for any Peace Keeping mission.
According to him, the training of the Police Officers by the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre is an arrangement that happens once every year.
He added that there are no plans for Ghanaian security officers to be sent to Somalia for peacekeeping missions and urged the public to disregard the report.
