The Abudu royal family in Dagbon has accused the Yendi crime officer of working for the Andani family.
The Abudus allege that the crime officer, ASP David Ansong, attempted to bury a charm near their palace and that he was sent by the Andanis to do so.
Secretary to the Abudu youth, Fuseini Bawa Zakaria told Joy News they arrested ASP Ansong and an Andani man and handed them over to the police.
He said angry Abudu youth wanted to lynch the police officer but the leaders came to his rescue.
Mr Zakaria said they had had intelligence that some persons with sinister motives intended to come and bury charms near the palace and so they were on the look out and consequently caught the police officer and his accomplice.
Items found on the police officer included a piece of cloth, a red cock, candles, and incense.
The Yendi Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Charles Bomaban has confirmed the incident.
He told Joy News the crime officer is at large for now. He says the case will be referred to the Northern Regional Police Command.
“Why he had to go to the extent of going to the Abudus’ [palace] to bury something, he has to answer,” he said.
The Commander said the case will, after preliminary investigations, be transferred to the regional police headquarters for further investigation and action.
