A police officer at Beposo near Asante Mampong, and his brother are in police custody for illegal possession of firearms.
Lance Corporal Geoffrey Agbohla was picked up together with Gabriel Ahoto, who named the police officer as owner of some weapons he was keeping in his house at Kotwi.
Forty-seven AK47 magazines with 11 rounds live ammunition, a single-barreled gun, a pistol magazine, nine live cartridges, a bayonet and a military belt were found in Ahoto’s room during a search by the Pakyi Police.
Sources at the Ashanti Regional Police Command say personnel at Pakyi were investigating alleged threats by Ahoto to kill one Amos Awuah with a single-barreled gun.
Ahoto and Awuah are reported to have been involved in a dispute over a woman.
At about 12:40 a.m. last Friday, Ahoto chased Awuah away with a single-barreled gun in attempt to kill him when Awuah attempted to visit the woman at the centre of the litigation.
Upon his arrest, Ahoto mentioned Lance Corporal Agbohla as the owner of the gun, a claim the police officer later admitted.
A search in the policeman’s room at Beposo led to the discovery of additional two AK47 magazines and a locally-made short gun.
Sources say the two suspects would soon be arraigned before court.
