A six-member National Planning Committee has been set up by the Presbyterian Church of Ghana to spearhead activities commemorating the 180th anniversary celebration of the church next year.
Members of the Committee chaired by the Rev. E. Osafo Boateng, are Mr. E. Dwamena-Asare, the Rev. Dr J.O.Y. Mante and the Rev. K. Yeboah-Duah.
The rest are Mr. Osei Akyeampong, Secretary, Mrs Asie Allotey and other members yet to be nominated by the General Assembly Council.
Rev. Herbert Anim Opong, Clerk of the General Assembly, who inaugurated the Committee on Wednesday charged members to propose a theme, draw up programme of activities throughout 2008 and ensure that every presbytery in Ghana and beyond had a feel of the celebration.
They are also to use the celebration as a tool to raise funds to rehabilitate and renew some infrastructure, especially principal venues and historic monuments.
He said the anniversary should also be used to seal the emerging cracks within the church so as to help it maintain its status as well as enhance church and national unity.
Rev. Opong called on the members to formulate a budget proposal to be submitted to the General Assembly Council for consideration and approval at their meeting next month.
He assured them of the Council's support in every endeavour and advised that the celebration was carried out in modest and simple atmosphere with more emphasis on information, education and communication.
