President John Evans Atta Mills has called on investigative agencies in the country to look into the allegation by Herbert Mensah that his (Mills) campaign team has allocated GHS 90 million to bribe delegates in the party’s presidential primaries.
Mr. Herbert Mensah, former Chief Executive of Kumasi Asante Kotoko and a close associate of the Rawlingses, alleged on Adom FM that credible information from security tapes from the Castle suggests that the Mills campaign team intend to use GHS90 million to buy votes from party delegates just to ensure victory for President Mills over Nana Konadu.
He described the move by President Mills as an abuse of incumbency against his opponents, Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings and Dr. Ekwow Spio-Garbrah.
The allegation has provoked government officials and members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) some of whom have described it as preposterous and have challenged him (Herbert) to make available the said tape.
President Mills in an interview with host of Asempa FM's Ekosii Sen programme Nana Bobie Ansah had a good laugh, describing the claims by Herbert Mensah as untrue and baseless.
According to him, he has already won the flagbearership race of the party and does not need to bribe the delegate to ensure his victory.
He said the party delegates are very discerning and will not allow anyone to entice them with money.
President Mills described as unfortunate the actions of individuals who want to tarnish his image.
He observed that even if he had such an amount, he will use it to complete the Accra-Achimota- Nsawam road and the Sofoline road in Kumasi.
Meanwhile, the National Security will as soon as possible invite Herbert Mensah to prove his allegations.
