The President John Evans Atta Mills has reiterated his unflinching desire to set the country free from the scourge of armed robbery.
He was speaking at the presentation ceremony of 13 Pick-Ups and 7 buses to the personnel of the Police Service and the Armed Forces.
The presentation he said was in line with government’s commitment to fighting the menace.
The vehicles are to enable the security forces carry out an effective patrol nationwide, especially in areas identified as prune to armed robbery.
“Some of the vehicles will bring full meaning to my campaign promise of fighting armed robbery in the country,” the president said
The President called for more collaboration between the general public and police to nip armed robbery in the bud.
“The police service is as good and as effective as we help them. We the ordinary citizens should be able to feed them with information. We should be observant,” the president admonished.
The Inspector General of Police, Paul Tawiah Quaye, who received the vehicles on behalf of the service, said they will “increase mobility” and “visibility” of personnel.
The presentation, the IGP noted, “fits perfectly into plans by the service to reach out to the public.”
He was convinced the service was winning the war on armed robbery.
“When it comes to crime we are on top of the situation,” he said.
