The President, Professor John Atta Mills, will, on Friday, January 7, 2011, answer questions on his stewardship from editors of the country's media houses.The forum, dubbed, "The Editors Forum", will last about three hours at the Castle, Osu, and will afford media practitioners the opportunity to question the President on his handling of the various sectors of the economy.This is the second time President Mills will be subjecting himself to a thorough drill by critical minds of the Ghanaian media. He is expected to answer questions relating to the increase in petroleum prices and his relationship with former President Jerry Rawlings.The President is also expected to answer questions on the STX Korea Housing deal, oil production in the Jubilee Field, the district assembly elections and the contracting of huge loans from the Chinese government.Media personnel would want to know from President Mills why money for institutions such as the Judiciary, which is an important arm of the government, was reduced drastically and the collateralisation of Ghana's oil.He should also prepare to answer questions on the killing of the Ya-Na and more than 30 of his sub-chiefs at the Gbewaa Palace in Yendi and the conflict of attrition in Bawku in the Upper East Region.Other questions that may feature on the programme will centre around the internal squabbles within the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the President's reaction to the outburst of the NDC Chairman, Dr KwabenaAdjei.The media will also question President Mills on whether his surprise visits to some institutions in the course of last year have had any meaningful impact on the work culture of workers in the public sector and also whether the government has lent any form of assistance to distressed organisations such as the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), as promised.Former President Rawlings has always criticised President Mills's government, for which the President will be asked whether those utterances from Mr Rawlings distract his attention from focusing on core national issues of development and also the effects of those outbursts on the chances of the NDC retaining political power in 2012.The media will ask President Mills why he has failed to take a front-line role to ensure the early resolution of the impasse between the two contestants in the recent presidential run-off in Cote d'Ivoire.Source: Daily Graphic
