Reverend Father David Ackom-Afful, Assistant Administrator of Saint Joseph's Minor Basilica Church at Elmina, has called on Ghanaians to contribute towards poverty alleviation of the vulnerable in society.
He pointed out that when Ghanaians complement government's efforts in poverty alleviation by channelling monies used on expensive funerals to educate their wards and children, it would be a great service to humanity and positive contribution to improve living standards of the people.
Rev. Father Ackom-Afful addressing the congregation said the solemnity associated with funerals had been lost through the manner bereaved families spent money on refreshment and purchase of new cloths for every funeral.
"Such a deviation from the norm has affected many children who could be educated to become future leaders in the country," he added.
Rev. Father Ackom-Afful appealed to Ghanaians, especially Christians to have trust and confidence in God to solve their problems instead of resorting to other avenues for assistance.
