Samson Deen, President of the National Paralympic Committee (NPC), has urged Sports Minister Designate Kofi Adams to prioritise the development of all sporting disciplines and not only football.
On Tuesday, January 21, 2025, President John Dramani Mahama nominated Mr. Adams to lead activities at the Ministry of Sport and Recreation.
Speaking to GNA Sports following the news, Mr. Deen, who also serves as President of the African Paralympic Committee, congratulated Mr. Adams on his nomination, noting the experience and understanding he brings on board.
“Kofi Adams brings a wealth of experience and understanding to the sports sector. His leadership skills, demonstrated during his time as National Youth Organiser, will undoubtedly be valuable in working with diverse groups within the sports sector.
“I will make a clarion call on him to prioritise the development of all sports disciplines and not just football. With over 50 Olympic sports and 22 disability/para sports disciplines, there’s a need for equal attention and resources to ensure no discipline is left behind.
“This includes providing equal financial provision, facilities, equipment, logistics, and human resources to all sports,” Mr. Deen stated.
Mr. Deen also proposed that Mr. Kofi Adams develop a comprehensive program for holistic sports development and management if approved by Parliament’s Appointment Committee.
The NPC President further emphasised the need for the Sports Minister Designate to establish a reliable funding mechanism to assist sports development.
When asked what role Kofi Adams should play in the growth of para-sports in the country, Mr Deen said,” I expect an allocation of funds directly to sports federations/associations to support para-sports development and also provide equal resources and support across all sports, including para-sports.
“Establish a dedicated desk at the ministry to focus on parasports and related matters.”
