NPP General Secretary, John Boadu

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has urged all, especially Christians across the world to mark the Christmas season with love and care for the needy in order to give real meaning to the essence of Christmas.

In a Christmas message from the party, General Secretary, John Boadu emphasised that Christmas is indeed a season of love and care [which are all virtues Christ personified] especially for the needy in society.

"In the light of this, the NPP, on the occasion of the commemoration of this great season, humbly calls on all and sundry, particularly people who subscribe to the Christian faith to show much love and care to the needy in order to give real meaning to the essence of Christmas," he said.

In the statement sighted by JoyNews, the party acknowledged that the Christmas season is characterised by gestures such as almsgiving, hence, it will only be appropriate for all who share the faith to extend love by being generous this season.

"The birth of Jesus Christ, undoubtedly, marks an important milestone on the Christian calendar because of its great significance. It is for this reason that the commemoration of this day is often characterized by, not only deep supplication to our Maker but also by merrymaking, symbolic decorations, social gatherings, and almsgiving," he said.

While extending seasons greetings and reminding the general public and the world about the relevance of the season, the General for the NPP reiterated the government's commitment towards tackling every challenge confronting the ordinary Ghanaian.

"The NPP also acknowledges that we are a country challenged by an eagerness for urgent solutions to the problems confronting our people which have been exacerbated by the socio-economic impact of the deadly Covid-19 pandemic," he said.

"The party, however, takes consolation in the fact that [the sitting] government, ably led by President Akufo-Addo, has amply demonstrated the wherewithal to tackle the very challenges confronting the ordinary Ghanaian," he added.

He further stated that "if for nothing at all, the budget of 2022, which has been, righty so, christened the ‘adwenkwa budget’, provides a clear pathway for the post Covid-19 socioeconomic rebound and transformation of our country, for sustained growth and prosperity."

"We, therefore, have everything to celebrate in this festive season and beyond. May this Christmas end the year on a cheerful note and make way for a brighter and more prosperous New Year for our dear country," he added.
