A member of the National Economic Dialogue Committee, Professor John Gatsi has strongly refuted claims that the schedule of the is problematic, asserting that starting the discussion at this point is essential for long term planning.
Speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show on Monday, March 3, Abotsi emphasised that beginning with short-term solutions is key to effectively addressing Ghana's economic challenges, but he stressed that these solutions must be part of a broader long-term strategy.
"I don’t agree, you must start at a point and move into a long term," Abotsi said.
He clarified that while the budget itself is a short-term programme designed to address immediate fiscal issues, the programmes within the budget often have longer gestation periods.
"The budget is actually a short-term programme, but the programmes within it have a long-term gestation period," Abotsi explained.
"So if you don’t start at a point, and then feature those that will go into this year’s budget, and those that will go into future arrangements, then it means that you have not got a grip on what the issues are," he remarked.
