Agricultural projects in Northern, Upper East and West Regions are being reviewed to assess their successes and failures to formulate a new programme to address the perennial problem of food insecurity in Northern Ghana.
The projects are Upper West Agricultural Development Project (UWADEP), Land Conservation and Small Holder Rehabilitation Project (LACOSHREP) in Upper East and Northern Poverty Reduction Project (NORPREP) in Northern Region.
Emmanuel Eledi, Upper West Regional Director of Agriculture who announced this said the new programme, Northern Rural Growth Programme (NRGP) sought to address problems associated with IFAD sponsored agricultural projects in the three regions.
Mr Eledi was addressing the opening session of a workshop at Wa for stakeholders including farmers, agriculturists, extension officers and representatives of non-governmental organizations in the region for their inputs into the new programme.
He said the new programme, under the theme, "Moving Forward in Partnership through Programming", would allow other development partners to participate in its implementation.
Mr Eledi said a document on the programme will be prepared for donors to select their areas of assistance, while IFAD will soon send a project implementation team to study the document.
Similar workshops are being held in the Northern and Upper East Regions.
