Prudential Life Insurance has launched a micro-insurance policy for Ghanaians in the informal sector as part of its 170th anniversary celebrations at the Kejetia Market in Kumasi.
The 'Mekakrawa' insurance policy will cover accidental death, integral illness and disability, especially targeted at informal sector players.

The 'Mekakrawa' insurance policy is set to include the unbanked, wholesale, and middle-income earners of all classes.
The policy is geared towards ensuring financial inclusivity among Ghanaians, particularly those in the informal sector.

According to the CEO of Prudential Life Insurance Ghana, Dr. Hazel Berrard, the 'Mekakrawa' insurance policy is to support every Ghanaian to make the best out of life no matter how much one earns.
She noted the insurance policy will support the efforts of the government to increase financial literacy.
"This is an insurance package for every single Ghanaian regardless what he or she earns. We have come up with such a package for the benefit of all classes. We will also be helping the government in its efforts to increase financial literacy” she indicated.

The Ashanti Regional Manager of the National Insurance Commission (NIC), Farouk Dramani, commended Prudential Life for their years of service in the insurance space.
He described the 'Mekakrawa' policy as a good plan for securing one's future.
“This is a policy coming to help every individual. We must at all cost be part of this insurance programme to help secure our future. Further, I would applaud Prudential Insurance for keeping up with a good job for so long” he said.

The Kejetia Market Queenmother, Nana Yaa Buadu, lauded Prudential Life for coming up with an insurance policy to help all classes of people.
She encouraged traders to subscribe to the 'Mekakrawa' insurance policy.
“I will plead with my colleagues to go in for the prudential life insurance. As market women, we should secure some insurance. At least, one that we can rely on. I will also commend Prudential Life for making this accessible to us.
