The headmaster of the Eremon Senior High Technical School, Mr. Felix Sunkari Sibiri has stated that quality education cannot be achieved without the necessary resources that will enhance teaching and learning.
The headmaster made the statement on the occasion of the first speech and prize day of the school at Eremon in the Lawra district of the Upper West Region.
It was celebrated on the theme "Quality education for human resource development: The role of the stakeholder".
Mr. Felix Sunkari said the theme was chosen because the country needs quality education to turn out marketable youth in the world of work.
He commended the government for the policy of equal distribution of resources to schools and suggested that more attention be paid to the less endowed schools.
"It is only through that the less endowed schools can grow and reduce the pressure on the more endowed schools," he added.
He also commended the government and some major stakeholders for assisting the school with numerous educational facilities which include a six classroom block, boys dormitory block and a fence funded by the GETFUND and currently being constructed by Satemkon Ghana Limited.
Mr. Sunkari said the school presented 146 students for the 2010/2011 West Africa Senior Secondary Certificate Examination; 63 candidates passed all 8 subjects; 143 candidates passed between 6 to 8 subjects with 8 as the best aggregate.
The headmaster said the school is bedeviled with some challenges. He said a Vocational Technical (VOTEC) Center was built with standard machines for Woodwork, Metal work, Auto mechanics and Electricals.
He said a transformer that was installed in 2007/2008 to generate power for the workshops has failed to function. Mr. Sunkari said several efforts to bring the contractor to site to rectify the situation have proved futile.
He added that foundation was laid for a Girls Hostel under the special emergency projects in 2010 by an Accra based construction B company and since then he has vacated the site. Mr. Sunkari said the students are in dire need of the facility and called on authorities concerned to help trace the contractor to come to the site to resume work.
Other challenges include inadequate staff accommodation, inadequate library, lack of official vehicle to facilitate movement and science laboratory facilities.
