Former president Jerry John Rawlings will on Wednesday join cadres to mark 35-years of the June 4 uprising in 1979.
Then Chairman of the Armed Forces Revolutionary Council (AFRC), Flt. Lft. Jerry John Rawlings toppled the government of the Supreme Military Council, another military regime, in a bloody coup.
The regime started a 'House cleaning' exercise against corruption. Three former military leaders of Ghana, Lt. Gen. Afrifa, Gen. Acheampong and Lt. Gen. Akuffo were all executed together with five other senior officers deemed to have been corrupt by the special courts set up by the government.
According to a release by the anniversary planning committee and signed by Naval Capt Afeku Amenyo, "the occasion will be graced by the presence of Flt Lt Jerry John Rawlings, former President and leader of the uprising and the December 1981 Revolution".
A wreath-laying ceremony in honour of the fallen heroes will be held at the Revolution Square Accra and will be replicated across the various regions. It will be preceded by a route march from Kawukudi Junction to the Revolution Square.
The route march, which will commence at 6am, will culminate in a parade at 7.30am at the Revolution Square, the statement indicated.
