The Ghana Premier League week 8 clash between Elmina Sharks and Medeama played at the Nduom Sports Complex on Wednesday ended abruptly after referee Yakubu Nuhu Liman was brutally attacked by the home supporters, Joy Sports has gathered.
Sharks fans unhappy with certain decisions pounced on the match official, leaving him with blood oozing from his head (pictured above). The incident occurred after the first 45 minutes.
But Elmina Sharks sought to cover up the inhumane act by posting on Twitter that Liman ‘’fell and injured himself’.

Break in play here in Elmina. The referee fell and injured himself. He has since been rushed to hospital, waiting for the 4th official to assume responsibility of the game.

It”™s palpable falsehood and wicked for Elmina Sharks to claim referee Nuhu Liman fell on his own. He was brutally and brazenly attacked by irate Sharks fans. Sharks indeed! Shocking! pic.twitter.com/QzZCoJU1EX

Bankroller of Sharks and 2016 presidential aspirant Papa Kwesi Nduom spent about an hour convincing the referee – who had finished receiving treatment - to restart the game but to no avail as the game was officially called off.
The game would have had implications on the top of the table. Had Medeama won, they would have moved to the summit, ahead of AshGold, who drew at WAFA.
Sharks, on the other hand, would have been second had they won. But as it stands Medeama and Sharks lie third and fifth respectively on the league log, each with a game in hand.
For Nuhu Liman, this is the second time he's been beaten by fans only this season. Fans in Berekum thrashed him when local side Chelsea hosted Dreams FC on matchday two, which ended 1-1 at the Golden City Park. Chelsea are serving a three-match suspension by virtue of that.
