The organisers of the Regal Film Festival and Awards have released the nomination list for the 2025 edition after screening 121 film entries from 21 countries across Africa and beyond.
The submissions reflected a wide range of storytelling, culture and creativity, confirming the steady rise of Africa’s film industry and its growing global reach.
Following weeks of assessment by the Academy of Screeners, the entries were narrowed down to 64 films across categories such as Feature Films, Short Films, Documentaries, Animation and African Language Films.
At the nomination announcement in Accra, the Festival Director praised filmmakers for their work and highlighted the international interest the festival continues to attract.
“We are proud of the calibre of films submitted this year, works that tell authentic African stories with creativity and technical depth. The diversity of voices and themes demonstrates how far our continent’s film industry has evolved,” said Selassie Ibrahim, the Executive Director.

The Regal Film Festival and Awards serves as a platform for creative exchange and recognition of cinematic excellence across Africa and the Diaspora. All nominated films will compete for honours at the Awards Night scheduled for 13 December 2025 in Accra.
This year’s programme will also include industry masterclasses, panel discussions and networking sessions geared towards bridging creativity, technology and financing in Africa’s film ecosystem.
