Residents from Kyenkyenase, Kwamekrom, and Fahiakobo have voiced their grievances regarding the inadequate telecommunication network in their locality.
These towns are in the Bibiani Anhweaso Bekwai Municipality in the Western North Region.
Their concerns highlight the substantial impact this deficiency has on their daily routines.
They express particular distress over the exacerbation of the situation during emergencies. The inability to make phone calls for urgent assistance and the challenges surrounding mobile money transactions due to network limitations compound their difficulties.
The residents describe having to travel to the outskirts of their communities and position themselves beneath a specific tree in order to access a stable network connection.
According to one resident, "If you do not stand under that tree, you'd find it difficult to get a connection. Other times, you would try making calls countless times but it will fail to go through until you get to the tree."
In response to these concerns, local opinion leaders, including the unit committee chairman and the chief of Fahiakobo, have reached out to the government for assistance. They are urging the completion of a telecommunication mast project that was initiated several years ago to address these network challenges.
One of the opinion leaders emphasized their efforts in seeking resolution, stating, "I've tried many avenues to get this resolved. When the former Municipal Chief Executive was in power, I went to speak to him about four times regarding this issue. He told me a contractor would fix the problem after the telecommunication lines are laid and till date, nothing has been done."
The plight of these communities underscores the critical role that reliable telecommunications infrastructure plays in the lives of individuals, especially during emergencies.
Their collective voice resonates in the hopes that their concerns will be heard and addressed, enabling them to overcome the hurdles posed by inadequate network coverage.
