A 64-year-old retired lecturer of the Dr Hilla Limann Technical University, Stephen Mani, has met his untimely death after he was hit by a stray bullet fired as a result of an alleged scuffle over a parcel of family land.
He was pronounced dead on arrival at the Wa Municipal Hospital after the bloody shooting incident which took place few metres away from the Wa SSNIT Flat.
The deceased, while on retirement, operated a drinking bar 400 metres away from the scene of the incident.
Four other persons who were not part of the dispute were also hit by the bullets and are said to be in critical condition at the same facility.
According to reports, these five victims had no connection with the alleged family land dispute.
A 19-year-old Level 100 student of the SD Dombo University of Business and Integrated Development Studies is one of the four victims.
“When I was coming, this man was standing and he was shooting some other men. So, when I saw that he was shooting from where I was coming from, I parked the motorbike and I wanted to run.
“When I was running, he pointed the gun at me and shot my hand,” he said.
The Police say they have commenced investigations into the incident and will get to the bottom of the matter.
“When they went to the scene of the crime, they met a man by name Abdul, aged 61. He is now with the Police whilst investigations are underway,” the Police has said.
Meanwhile, the remains of the 64-year-old retired lecturer have been deposited at the Wa Municipal Hospital morgue, pending autopsy.
