The Right to Information Bill received its first reading on Friday February 5, on the floor of parliament.The bill was laid before the house by the Deputy Attorney Hon Barton Oduro, on behalf of the substantive minister, Mrs Betty Mould Iddrisu.It was subsequently referred to the joint Parliamentary Committee made up of the Committee on Legal, Constitutional Affairs as well as the Committee on Communications.The bill will go through three stages before its final approval.Last Week, some civil society groups organised a demonstration to push for the immediate passage of the bill into law.The bill when passed will provide the opportunity for journalists and individuals to access information from all public institutions.Source: Myjoyonline.com/Ghana
