Police have arrested robbers suspected to be leaders of a current syndicate where robbers disguise themselves as funeral mourners and snatch vehicles from their owners in the Ashanti regional capital Kumasi.
The supposed mourners Musa Kasim, Mohammed Oliver,Yusif Musa and Alidu Issifu were tracked down and arrested by the police after they hired a Toyota Urvan bus from Mmrom in the Ashanti Region to Mankessim.
They paid part of the agreed fare and requested that the driver picked more mourners when they arrived at Pekyi number 2 but as the journey progressed other members of the group ambushed the vehicle and snatched it from the driver.
With the help of a tracking devise installed in the car, the police were able to track the vehicle and the robbers were subsequently arrested at their hide out in KIntampo.
Regional Police Commander DCOP Kofi Boakye advised the public to be wary about the new strategy of the robbers -- where they disguise themselves as mourners -- and urged public support to deal with the situation in the region.
He said police remain determined in their quest to combat crime in the Ashanti Region.
Police in the region have been battling with armed robbery menace since the beginning of this year.
In June, the Manhyia Divisional Police Command arrested 33 suspected armed robbers including a 16-year-old boy.
