A Deputy Communications Director for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Sammy Awuku says the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) has expanded three employment areas since they assumed office barely three years ago. The areas, according to Sammy Awuku, include Cyber fraud known in local parlance as “‘Sakawa’, armed robbery and prostitution” which he said has employed many unemployed youth because the government has failed to create jobs for the masses. Sammy Awuku said this when commenting on job creation as contained in last Wednesday’s budget presented to Parliament by the Finance Minister, Dr. Kwabena Duffuor. At a panel discussion on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem on Friday, Sammy Awuku noted that the government has failed to create employment for unemployed graduates and this has resulted in many people engaging in all sorts of malpractices to enable them put food on the table. "The NDC government has done nothing to create employment for the youth but has expanded Sakawa, Armed Robbery and Prostitution; that is not our destiny as a country", Sammy Awuku said. According to him, the government is not being sensitive to the plight of unemployed graduates that is why the government went ahead to secure a loan part of which conditions prevents the government from employing people into the public service. However, the NDC Member of Parliament for Amenfi Central in the Western Region, George Arthur who admitted rather sarcastically that the government has expanded prostitution in this era, explained that the NPP Presidential candidate Nana Akufo-Addo endorsed it when he commented on the ‘bottom power’ at a funeral of the late Madam Theresa Tagoe. George Arthur alleged that an NPP MP abandoned his underpants after he was chased away by a prostitute at a hotel during an ECOWAS meeting in Nigeria. He refused to name the said MP but said it is an indication that the NPP has really endorsed prostitution and are patronising it. George Arthur refuted claims that the government has failed to create employment for the youth, adding the government is creating employment through the Local Enterprises and Skills Development Programme (LESDEP).
