The National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi, has expressed his dismay and called for urgent action over the ongoing investigation into missing containers, describing the situation as “mind-boggling” and “completely unacceptable.”
This follows the disappearance of over 1,300 containers belonging to the ECG from the Tema Port.
Speaking during a discussion on JoyNews’ Newsfile programme on Saturday, April 5, commended the Minister for Energy, Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, for what he described as transparency and proactive stance in handling the matter.
He praised the Minister for not only overseeing the investigations conducted by the committee but also for taking the initiative to escalate the issue to the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) for further scrutiny.
“This is mind-boggling, this is completely unacceptable, and I’m happy that the minister for energy, and let me commend him for how transparent he has been on this matter and his determination to get to the bottom of this matter,” Gyamfi said.
He added, “I am happy that he has written beyond the investigations conducted by the committee constituted; he has written to the NIB to take this matter up and investigate it.”
However, Mr Gyamfi made it clear that the NDC and the public will not tolerate delays or excuses.
“We do not want any excuses,” he insisted. “The NIB must provide us with clear timelines. This cannot be treated as business as usual. The people deserve answers, and the law must be allowed to take its course.”
He demanded to know who was responsible for the discrepancies, particularly those who had breached public procurement laws in the awarding of contracts related to the missing containers.
“Let’s get to the bottom of this matter,” Gyamfi said. “We need to know who is responsible for this serious lapse. It’s time to let the law of this country work, and we will continue to push for transparency and accountability at every level.”
