Hans Adu Sarpei says a desire for more international football is keeping him going at Schalke 04 as he strives to impress coach Felix Magath.
The Ghanaian utility defender who represented the Black Stars at the 2010 World Cup has been shipped off to the club's reserve side after a promising start to his Schalke career and admits he is enduring a frustrating spell.
But he is refusing to let that knock him down. "It's very difficult period for me," he told KickOffGhana.com.
"Magath bought me with defence in mind but he just sent me to the second team without telling me anything, without a word about what I have done wrong."
It is the uncertainty that is killing Sarpei but he is hopeful new Ghana boss Goran Stevanovic will judge him differently.
"I have been training with the second team and trying to keep my performance up. The difficult thing in a situation like this is you don't know exactly what to do. The coach is not talking so you don't know your faults.
"It's not easy when you are not playing regular. I've showed I have what it takes, I hope the new coach (Stevanovic) knows that. I have to stay in shape and ensure that when I get the call up I will do well.
"The motivation for me in this difficult time is that I love to play soccer. It is what you love, it's your work so that is the motivation. But there is no bigger motivation than wanting to play for the Black Star again. It keeps me going in these difficult times."
