Residents of Tuobodom in the Brong Ahafo Region are fleeing to neighbouring towns over fears an angry group plans to strike the town.

The group is seeking the release of people picked up by police in August after violent attacks by unknown gunmen that led to the death of five people.

Joy News understands there is currently heavy police and military presence in the town to quell any violence.

Brong Ahafo Region Correspondent, Anas Sabit, said Tuesday that police have also spoken to chiefs believed to be heading the factions that clashed in August in a bid to restore peace in the area.

However, the chiefs, according to Anas, have denied knowledge of the existence of the factions.

Six people died in violent clashes in the town last August. Eight others also sustained severe injuries. Properties, including a house and a car were also reduced to ashes.

Ethnic and chieftaincy disputes were blamed for the fatal incident. The clashes were triggered by an alleged attack on a man.

The man, accused of being a spy, went easing himself in a community dominated by a rival ethnic group.

Anas reported in August that another faction also paraded men with guns in an attempt to retaliate the attack on their kinsman. They started shooting sporadically and set one house ablaze.

Police picked up five suspects over the incident, but the group alleged to be planning mayhem say their colleagues must be released.
