A Tarkwa circuit court has remanded 36-year-old Mathias Anobre, a security officer, for pouring acid on his colleague.
The accused pleaded not guilty to causing harm and would re-appear before the court on March 31.
Prosecuting, Detective Chief Inspector Oscar Amponsah, told the court, presided over by Mr Justice Emmanuel Bart-Plange Brew, that the victim, Baba Musah, resides in the same vicinity with the accused at Kedadwen Ashiba in the Tarkwa-Nsueam Municipality.
The accused worked with True Name Small-Scale mining firm as a security officer.
He said on February 27, around 2300 hours, the victim was sleeping under a shed that belonged to the accused person’s girlfriend.
Prosecution said the victim woke up and saw the accused person standing at the entrance of the shed but did not pay attention to him and went back to sleep.
The prosecution said few minutes later the accused person rushed on the victim and poured acid on his face and fled from the scene.
He said Baba sustained severe burns on the face and parts of the body but his colleagues, Douglas Owusu and Issah Tahiru, witnesses to the incident, came to his rescue after hearing the loud screams.
They lodged a formal complaint at the police station where Baba was given a medical report to send to the hospital pending investigation into the matter.
Anobre was later arrested at his hide-out and handed over to the police for interrogation.
Prosecution said the police retrieved a pair of jeans trousers the accused wore at the time of the incident from his bedroom with the pocket soaked with acid.
