Security personnel have been deployed in Bawku in the Upper East region ahead of Thursday’s Samampiid festival celebrated by the Kusasis. This is to avert a possible clash with the Mamprusis.
The main festivals of the two tribes have often resulted in violent clashes with each accusing the other of attempting to disrupt the other’s.
Bawku Divisional Police Commander ACP Boadu Peprah told Joy News the police are leaving nothing to chance.
He said they were doing joint police-military patrols, random stop and search among other measures to ensure no criminal disturbs the celebrations.
ACP Boadu Preprah said his outfit has so far managed to curb the violence often associated with the festival.
