Dr Valerie Sawyerr, a Senior Policy Adviser to former President John Mahama has described her late mother Esther Victoria Sawyerr as the perfect role model.

“My mummy was a virtuous woman; a lady who could survive in any setting,” she said paying tribute to her mother’s memory.

The widow of Harry Sawyerr was a matriarch in her family and in society who is praised by everyone for being a wise caring soul.

“A beautiful lady with a big heart; ready to welcome anyone, ready to fuss over everyone, - us, our friends and even our husbands’ friends. A tirelessly hardworking lady who would scrub, wash and clean for all of her 81 years.”

"My perfect role model; I watched mum support and encourage daddy in all his endeavours. Yes! Mumzilo was tolerant, patient, understanding and wise. To her, indeed marriage was forever,” she added.

She was, “the caregiver for our children - your grandchildren, providing snacks for school, meals, help with homework and exams, and giving advice effortlessly. I never took these for granted.”

“You dedicated your entire life to us and your grandchildren and it saddens me greatly that you did not live long enough to fully enjoy the fruits of your labour.”

“I will miss coming over on Wednesday and Friday evenings to spend time with you and to be given an update of all telenovelas. But Mumzilo! You have done more than your bit and you continue to live on in us,” her daughter said.

The 81-year-old passed away on April 28, 2020 peacefully in her sleep.
Mrs Esther Victoria Sawyerr was laid to rest on May 14, 2020.
