The General Secretary of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) is set to appear before the Supreme Court later today over a contempt of court charge. Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, popularly called Sir John and party communications team member, Hopeson Adorye were last week summoned by the court for dragging its name into disrepute. Two others previously cited by the court for contempt were jailed, one banned from the court and another pardoned. It is unclear what penalty the court will impose on Sir John and Hopeson Adorye. But ahead of Wednesday's contempt hearings, Sir John has said he is expecting justice to be done when his case is called. "The battle is still the Lord's, we'll leave it to God. Let us wait and hear what the Supreme Court says", Mr Owusu Afriyie noted. "I think that their Lordships will look at the issues carefully and judge. I respect their Lordships so let us wait and see what [they] will say. "But I am pretty confident that justice will be done," he stressed. The NPP General Secretary also asked party supporters who kept vigil throughout the night across the country in solidarity to remain calm and stay away from the Supreme Court premises. "I ask all party members and supporters to remain calm and not to do anything untoward. "I am not above the law and I believe that nobody in this country is above the law. So if I'm invited [by the courts] it doesn't call for any confusion in this country".
