The Mental Health Society of Ghana is demanding an apology from an Accra court for allegedly describing one of its members as an idiot.
The NGO says on the June 3, the court indicted a trader for “having canal knowledge of a female idiot.”
Though this description is prescribed by the country’s criminal code, Executive secretary of the group, Humphrey Kofie feels its insulting to people who have either suffered or are suffering mental illness.
He said the group will do all it can to stop the courts from describing its members in such derogatory terms.
