Armed military officers on Wednesday, July 30, obstructed JoyNews reporter Carlos Carlony from covering a demolition exercise at Spintex in Accra and physically assaulted a civilian who was speaking to the journalist at the scene.
At the time of filing this report, Mr Carlony had been taken into custody by operatives from the National Security, and his mobile phone confiscated.
The exact circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear.
It is still unknown what triggered the confrontation, but the development has raised fresh concerns over the safety of journalists in the line of duty in Ghana.
The demolition is believed to be linked to a legal dispute over the ownership of the land between McDan Group and the Airport Company of Ghana.
Reports also indicate that other showrooms in the vicinity have been demolished as well.
The structure, located on the Spintex Road next to Action Chapel, was reportedly torn down around 7.00 pm.
Eyewitnesses say several excavators were involved in the operation.
