A psychologist, Edith Naa Okailey Okaitey says some women feel intimidated by the success stories of others because they are not willing to evolve with time.
According to her, because some women are unwilling to improve on themselves, when they see their fellow women succeed, they start speaking ill of the successful ones.
Speaking on Joy Prime’s Prime Morning, Mrs Okaitey said that “not every woman has evolved. We still have women who are stuck in the narrative that they are in the background. So if they see a fellow woman evolving around the narrative, they feel you’re doing too much."
“And these are women who haven’t evolved, these are women who are still settling with enough, but when you’re a woman and you want to break the glass ceiling, they talk down on you,” she added.
She stated that women who take satisfaction in dragging their fellow women down because of their success rather than being empowered by their stories, should re-evaluate their lives.
“Let the men do it and let’s tear them apart but if as a woman you find yourself in that space trying to drag another woman down rather than using her story as a motivation to ride, then you also need some awareness for yourself,”
“You need to start exploring your own self to know what is it with you that makes you feel this height of a woman is too much, why am I not challenging my status quo but rather I feel intimidated by other women challenging theirs,” she noted.
The psychologist also indicated that cultural practices such as widowhood rites are performed by women to their fellow women which is very bad.
She added that if they had enough education and awareness, that energy could be channeled to other innovative areas that will project their strengths in a positive way.
“Great innovations that have been done by men, can we also start venturing into these innovations? All social media platforms are owned by men. If we had women who are into science and technology we will love to see one huge platform for social engagements that has 100 per cent ownership by women,” Mrs Okaitey said.
“Facebook is a man, Twitter is a man, Instagram is a man, so if today the men say they are pushing all the women from their platform where will we go to?” She quizzed.
On March 8, 2023, the world marks Intentional Women’s day. On this day, women are celebrated and commended for their amazing personalities. As part of the celebration, Edith Naa Okailey joined the host KMJ on the show to discuss how to ignite self-confidence in women.
