Youth and Sports Minister, Elvis Afriyie-Ankrah has dismissed reports of a possible appointment of a technical director for the Black Stars.
Black Stars coach Kwasi Appiah who has now become the reference point for local coaches after becoming the first Ghanaian to qualify Ghana for a third successive World Cup, has received a ringing endorsement from the Sports Minister.
The subject of talk in the local media after Ghana humiliated Egypt 6-1 in the first leg of the World Cup play offs was a possible appointment of German coach Klaus Topmoller as a technical director for Ghana at the 2014 World Cup.
But Elvis Afriyie Ankrah in an interview with Joy fm stated that Coach Kwasi Appiah will lead Ghana to Brazil.
“Let’s get this straight Kwasi Appiah is taking us to the World Cup period! We should stop wasting energy on things that are not necessary, he is taking us to the World Cup. I am the minister and I have said it and it's final,” he told Joy Sports
“I think we shouldn’t spend precious time on Topmoeller or Downmoeller, they can come to Ghana as tourists but they won’t coach the team,
“There is a programme for the coach, he goes out sometimes to build his capacity and that is what we are going to do.
“If we consult him [Coach Kwasi Appiah] and he thinks that he needs somebody why not, there are people in Ghana; ex-players, so we can’t go and bring somebody and put him in charge, that will not happen so we should forget about it”.
