Insurance penetration in the country hovers at two percent of the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP). This woeful level of penetration has been blamed on the non-payment of claims and the lack of good faith on the part of the public.

Therefore, in an effort to demystify some of these claims and to increase penetration levels, Star Assurance Ghana has held an Insurance Clinic at the Marina Mall in Accra to address issues pertaining to insurance in the country.

The four days event which started on the International Insurance Awareness Day 28th of June and ended last Saturday, July 1st, saw staff of Star Assurance attempting to answer questions from the general public on insurance products and why they should acquire them.

The staff also educated the public on Non-life insurance, about their insurance products and other offerings, they sold and renewed insurance policies, processed insurance claims and also resolved customer complaints among other things.

Head of Alternative Distribution Channels of Star Assurance, Bridget Opoku Sarkodie, highlighting the objectives of the clinic indicated that this Insurance Clinic was part of activities to mark its 38th anniversary and also help increase awareness on insurance to boost the seemingly dull industry.

"The purpose of the insurance awareness month celebration is to Raise awareness about insurance and showcase the benefits to stakeholders, the general public and anyone interested in insurance matters to make as many people as possible aware of the importance of having life insurance.

June 28th is International Insurance Awareness Day, and as a company that has an interest in the growth of the industry, there is a need for us to contribute our quota to the general agenda of the insurance industry to increase insurance awareness and penetration rates in the country.

The need for the above has fueled the idea to leverage the insurance awareness day to reach out to our clients and the general insuring public. The Insurance Clinic will attend to their insurance needs and also educate them on insurance in a very special way,” she said.
