Stranded Black Stars fans at the El-Wak stadium here in Accra have been asked to return to their homes after government ruled out any possibility of airlifting them to South Africa.
The angry fans, some of whom have been stranded for four days, say they have been handed a raw deal.
Government maintains it has airlifted 1,000 to the World Cup.
Deputy Sports Minister Nii Nortey Dua says fans still at the El Wak stadium, who have not made their own plans to travel to the World Cup should go home.
“They should go back to their bases unless anybody has any person who has given them promise that he will help them. But for government we have finished with our exercise,” he told Joy News.
Meanwhile, government continues to receive backlash over its decision to send a thousand fans to the football tournament.
Policy analyst Kwadwo Afari tells Joy News government should have subsidized match tickets rather than sponsoring individuals.
“We feel that there are many private people who could have paid their ticket to go if they if the government had asked them to do it,” he added.
Mr Afari also stressed it is important to establish “how much was spent on them and how much of the taxpayer’s money has been diverted to some other use.”
