The strike by teachers in public basic and senior high schools is to be sustained until concerns about teachers conditions of service and other matters are addressed.

Members of the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), and the Coalition of Concerned Teachers Ghana who asserted the position, have vowed not to return to the classroom.

A meeting between the teachers and the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations to address the concerns is expected today.

Vice President of NAGRAT, Jacob Anaba says members are ready to put in enough work to make up for the lost time.

He added however that "What will bring us back to the classroom will be when we have a memorandum of understanding indicating clearly a roadmap as to what they will do in terms of our demands."

The three teacher unions declared a nationwide strike effective Wednesday, March 20.

In a press statement, the unions stated that their intent to embark on the industrial action stemmed from the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service (GES) delay in addressing their conditions of service.

Meanwhile, students in over 500 public senior high schools will receive an iPad under the Ghana Smart School project.

Under this initiative, students will have access to e-learning materials as government commits to leveraging technological innovations to prepare students for the challenges and opportunities of the 4th Industrial Revolution.
